My name is Nate Jones. I attend Utah Valley university and have been given the assignment by my health teacher to create this blog. I would like to hear your ideas and input about the legalization of marijuana. Is there any good in the idea or are we better off to just leave it the way it is?

I don't think that marijuana should be legalized. I haven't done a lot of research on the subject but I just don't think it sounds like a good idea.

I do not think it should be legal for just anyone to get. I think it should be medically regulated such as other painkillers, antibiotics etc for those with true medical issues. I know it can be of great relief for those with debilitating artritis, chemo patients etc. I think it should be designed to be put inot a pill form for these needs.

I totally think that marijuana should not be legalized to just anyone. We have enough people doing it now and its not a good thing in all situations. I do think that it can be used for good with medical people and such but maybe they should just have a special privalage of having it legal to them.

I agree that marijuana has its benefits for sure but if you keep it legal for select purposes aren't you gonna have the same problems that we're having with painkillers now. Their being abused more than just about evey other drug out there. How do you keep it under control?

1. The drug generally isn't more harmful than alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation.
2. Limiting the use of the drug intrudes on personal freedom.
3. Legalization would mean a lower price; thus, related crimes (like theft) would be reduced.
4. There are medical benefits such as the those for cancer patients.
5. Street justice related to drug disputes would be reduced.
6. It could be a source of additional tax revenues.
7. Police and court resources would be freed up for more serious crimes.
8. Drug dealers (including some terrorists) would lose most or all of their business.
9. The FDA or others could regulate the quality and safety of drugs.
10 Like sex, alcohol, or cigarettes, marijuana is one of life's little pleasures for some people.
11. Drug busts often trap young people in a flawed system that turns them into lifelong criminals.
